Bonus Chapter 2

#2 Xiao Wangye's Parenting

Xiao Wangye, Dongfang Hao Ye was blessed with twin sons, it was a given that he was proud.

The names of his sons meant 'modest and sincere gentlemen, gentle as a jade'. The eldest son was named Dongfang Jun Qian, and the second son was Dongfang Jun Cheng. Their baby names were Tang Tang and Guo Guo, from the word 'tangguo' which meant candy; the most delicious thing ever.

It was obvious that Xiao Wangye was the one who came up with these names.

Having these two baby sons, Xiao Wangye was very happy. After all, the babies were born from his own beloved wife. Considering how Beitang Yao Yue suffered a great deal while he was pregnant with the babies, Dongfang Hao Ye cherished them even more.

After giving birth to the two babies, Beitang Yao Yue's health was very weak, so Xiao Wangye couldn't even think about taking care of his children. All day long he constantly rotated around Beitang Yao Yue, causing Yao Yue dizzy by seeing him. Afterwards, when Beitang Yao Yue's health was getting better, only then Xiao Wangye had the time to take a good look at his two sons.

"Somehow, they look like two little monkeys..."

Xiao Wangye remembered when the two babies were just born, their face were small and wrinkled. Looking very much like baby monkeys. The wet nurses had told him that all newborn babies looked like that, and then their look would get better in a few days.

However, after they all returned to Yujing, and after the babies' one hundred days celebration, Xiao Wangye thought his two sons still looked like monkeys. Why was this?

Later, the two little sons gradually grew, their face became tender and white, their eyes became round and big. They would be rolling around everywhere, behaving so full of energy. It was making Xiao Wangye feel a painful headache, and he seriously doubted that they really were two monkey spirits reincarnated.

Though Beitang Yao Yue was the one who gave birth to these babies, he was after all, a man. He knew nothing about child care. Xiao Wangye really liked his children and was willing to take care of them, but who was insane enough to let Xiao Wangye raise children? Wasn't that just adding chaos into a chaos?

Therefore, by Jing Wangfu's rules, the two little young masters would naturally had a herd of people trailing behind to wait on them.

Still, because they were the parents, Xiao Wangye and Beitang Yao Yue were very fond of their children. But, their way of loving the children were completely different.

Xiao Wangye grew up free and unrestrained because he was greatly pampered by his parents and elder brothers. He was rarely disciplined, so he was used to behave however he wished. This point was clearly reflected in his methods of educating his own children.

But Beitang Yao Yue were the opposite to Xiao Wangye. Growing up, he received very harsh education. Beitang Ao controlled his children very tightly, and Beitang Yao Ri was a strict and responsible elder brother. So Beitang Yao Yue's way of raising his children were just as strict.

Due to these differences in their own upbringings, Xiao Wangye and Beitang Yao Yue's ways of educating their children were very different.

For example one day, two-years-old Tang Tang said to him, "Diedie, I want to eat osmanthus flower candy~~" He prolonged the last syllable.

Xiao Wangye said with a smile, "Alright. Diedie will buy some for you."

But Beitang Yao Yue's expression hardened, and he slowly said two words, "Not allowed."

As if feeling wronged, Tang Tang turned to look at Xiao Wangye. Xiao Wangye thought for a moment then compromised with Beitang Yao Yue, "Let him have one piece, then."

Beitang Yao Yue didn't waver and said lightly, "Before they're seven, they're not allowed to eat sweets." Then he threw a cold glare in Xiao Wangye's direction as if daring him to disobey.

In the end, Xiao Wangye had to comply. He didn't want to do anything that would make Beitang Yao Yue unhappy. However, as he looked at his pitiful son, Xiao Wangye still tried to find small opportunities to sneakily give his sons candies, though these opportunities were rare.

Another example, today Guo Guo stumbled and fell to the ground. The poor boy's face turned red and big tears rolled down from his eyes as he looked at Xiao Wangye with pitiful expression.

Xiao Wangye immediately wanted to rushed forward to swoop Guo Guo and hold him in his arms, but he was stopped by Beitang Yao Yue.

"Let him stand up by himself."

Xiao Wangye's voice shook, "But... Guo Guo must be hurt..."

"Just a little stumble, nothing serious." Then Beitang Yao Yue said to his son, "Stand up, you're a boy but afraid of a mere stumble?"

Hearing that, Guo Guo gritted his teeth and wiped his tears as he slowly got up. Then he looked at his Fuqin wishing for praises. [Fuqin also means father.]

At the side, Xiao Wangye cried, 'Huhuhu... Yao Yue is too strict. Poor Guo Guo...'

In his entire life, except when he was still small child and was taught by his grandfather, no one had ever spoken a single harsh word to him. Now, many years later when he already had children, he had to had that kind of experience again...

When the two children were three years old, Beitang Yao Yue began to train them to build their martial arts.

Regarding martial art techniques, both Dongfang family's and Beitang family's were good. The parents discussed it, and after considering that Dongfang Family's Chiyang technique and Beitang family's Mingyue technique were all excellent; they decided each one of them would teach one technique.

The miserable Xiao Wangye had to force himself got up very early each morning to teach his sons to practice. Mornings were the best times for it, because people's internal rates were at the fastest and therefore they would absorb the learnings more quickly.

Xiao Wangye had not done such arduous job for many years, but this was doable. What was making Xiao Wangye depressed was how Beitang Yao Yue's treatment to him and to their sons were too different.

Early in the morning, he would crawled out of the bed, and still yawning, took his sons to the practice room, let them sit down and instructed them to expand their meridians.

They would be practicing until around Chen-shi [Chen-shi : dragon-hours, 7 to 9 am; so let's say they practiced until 8 am], then he took the children to have breakfast. After that, he wanted to come back to bed and cuddle with Beitang Yao Yue, but Beitang Yao Yue instead said, "Go to the court!"

"Huhuhu... This husband doesn't have enough sleep..." Xiao Wangye grumbled, complaining that his Third Brother still insisted that he should attend the Imperial Courts. He did bargain to be allowed to attend the Court once every three days, but still he was so tired...

If he finally making it through the court by dozing off despite his Third Brother's grim expression, no matter how he tried to hide; nine out of ten times Shui Lian'er managed to corner him and dragged him deal with East Gate matters.

When he, still yawning, finally returned to the Wangfu, usually Beitang Yao Yue would be feeding the children or dealing with the Wangfu's affairs. He could only wait until when the two sons took their nap before he could see Beitang Yao Yue.

"How envious..."

Xiao Wangye watched as Beitang Yao Yue, sitting on the edge of the bed, urging the children to sleep. He felt jealous.

Although Beitang Yao Yue was so strict, they were after all his own children. His love for them came from deep within his bones, though his methods in showing it may differ to Xiao Wangye's.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, Beitang Yao Yue was talking to the children with a smile, and occasionally caressing them. The children seemed to be feeling warm and safe, completely different than their usual mischievous behaviors; and then they soon fell asleep.

Xiao Wangye was also jealous how the children was obedient in front of Beitang Yao Yue. If it was him coaxing them to sleep, Tang Tang would be clamoring to him asking for candies, and Guo Guo would be pulling him to talk for a long while; not one of them would rest in quiet. Even when one of them eventually fell asleep, the other would still be unbearably energetic.

Xiao Wangye listened how Beitang Yao Yue speaking to them with gentle and soft tones. Why didn't Yao Yue had that same patience when talking to him? Yao Yue was always harsh to him, and when he did speak gently, it was short-lived.

Having children and forgetting the husband! Good thing his beloved wife was a man, too!

Xiao Wangye was upset, feeling he was neglected by his beloved wife.

"Yao Yue, I'm sleepy. Will you take a nap with me?"

"I'm not sleepy. You sleep on your own."

Xiao Wangye was green with envy, "I want you to sleep with me."

Beitang Yao Yue looked at him with a frown.

Xiao Wangye hugged him and rubbed his head on Yao Yue's shoulder, "Today is a long and tiring day. Third Brother gives me a lot of things to do, he wants to make me exhausted. Huhu... Lian'er also intentionally gives me troubles, wants me to inspect Fen Prefecture's accounting books. I'm a Gate Master, not a book-keeper. I'm so tired. Huhu... Yao Yue, let's take a short nap..."

After all, what people didn't want to sleep after practicing martial arts? Xiao Wangye was feeling upset, unbalaced and jealous; jealous of his children.

Beitang Yao Yue was wrapped tightly by Xiao Wangye, so he had no choice other than accompaniying him for a short nap. But, Xiao Wangye who said he wanted to sleep, was instead sleeping on him.

Beitang Yao Yue was enraged, "It's daytime, what are you doing!"

Xiao Wangye grinned and said, "Let's reconnect our intimacy. It's been a while, I'm kind of itching for it."

Beitang Yao Yue smiled, "Yeah, it's been a while, somehow itching for it."

"Ah, ah, ah... Yao Yue, don't. Huhu..."

The gauze curtain fell, the bed-frame shook slightly. Between the slight opening of the curtain, Dongfang Hao Ye's face would be seen at one moment, and then be hidden the next moment. Faint sounds of heavy breathing and murmurs could be heard coming from the bed.

"Huhu... Yao Yue, too.. too deep... Slow, slow down...

"Ow, ow... I can't... Yao Yue.. huhuhu... Yao Yue, you're bullying me..."

After a long time, when it was all over, Beitang Yao Yue got out of the bed, tidied his clothes and then patted Xiao Wangye's smooth and beautiful back, saying, "I'll go wake up the children, you sleep some more."

Xiao Wangye's head was burried under the quilts. He sobbed, "Huhuhu... Yao Yue is getting more cunning..." Then he suddenly hardened his heart, raised his head and clenched his fists.

No! It couldn't go on like this! He must think of a way!

Since Beitang Yao Yue gave birth to the babies, he was too focused on them. Though he did treat Xiao Wangye nicely some times, he musn't be allowed to unfairly take too many advantages. Because there were times like this, when Xiao Wangye wished to steal chicken*, but ended up being eaten instead...

[* From the idiom 'to try to steal a chicken only to end up losing the rice used to lure it'; so stealing a chicken basically means trying to gain an advantage'.]

Xiao Wangye still remembered that time when he and his beloved wife stayed in a small and remote village near the border of Ming Country. There, Yao Yue was wearing a woman's dress, belly bulging with his pregnancy; Yao Yue was so attentive towards him, so gentle... Eh? Wait, wait!

Xiao Wangye suddenly had an idea.

Hahaha... There was a way. As long as his beloved wife carried a baby, he couldn't push Xiao Wangye down, hahaha... Xiao Wangye laughed merrily.

Yes, yes! He could have another baby with his beloved wife. This time he didn't want another baby that was mischievous and naughty like those Tang-Guo stinky little brats. Instead, this time he wanted a little daughter that was amiable, obliging and also pretty...

More importantly, if his beloved wife was pregnant, he couldn't top Xiao Wangye. Hahaha...

Xiao Wangye became vey excited as he imagined it.

Six months later, Beitang Yao Yue smashed a bowl containing the tonic that he drank regularly and said between his gritted teeth, "Dong. Fang. Hao. Ye! You actually exchanged my medicine!"

"Yao Yue, don't be angry, careful of the baby!"

Xiao Wangye couldn't keep his mouth shut. This baby represented his and his beloved wife's beautiful and harmonious 'sex' life*. He decided that, regardless the baby was a boy or a girl, he would named the baby with a character 'he'**.

[* It's a pun. From 幸福 (xìngfú] which means “happy (in life); blissful”, by replacing 幸 (xìng, “fortunate; favour”) with 性 (xìng, “sex”). So it means 'sexually satisfied (in life)'.

** 'He' is the conjuction 'and'. But also means 'harmony'.]

Hahaha! He was so smart!

So when the Tang-Guo brothers were four years old, they had another little brother, Dongfang Jun He.

Xiao Wangye's parenting resulted in addition of another child.
